Steven Root, AccuWeather’s Senior VP of Strategic Initiatives, has pioneered unique meteorological applications serving consumers, businesses and governments for more than 35-years.
He is co-inventor of over thirty-five US and foreign patents and has supported the development of numerous renewable wind, geo-thermal and solar energy projects. He’s president of the American Weather and Climate Industry Association, and has earned BS and MS degrees from the University of Utah, is a CCM, and a Fellow of the AMS. In 2010, the AMS recognized Root with their Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Advance of Applied Meteorology, and in 2019 with their Henry T. Harrison Award for Outstanding Contributions by a Consulting Meteorologist.

Michael Root serves as AccuWeather’s Chief Licensing Officer. In this role, he manages the company’s global Patent portfolio, licenses the Patents to third parties, and develops new Patents to protect AccuWeather’s unique technologies. He is a prolific inventor, having co-invented 40 U.S. Patents, more than 35 foreign Patents, and has more than 25 Patent Applications currently pending in six countries.
Michael is a successful Petroleum Geologist, having worked for major and independent oil and gas companies before founding his own oil and gas exploration company in the mid-1980s. His company discovered, developed, and ultimately sold more than 20 producing oil and gas properties in the mid-continent region before pivoting the company into developing renewable energy resources in the early 2000s. He was associated with the early development and ultimate sale of two utility-scale wind projects in Oklahoma and New Mexico. Both projects are now in commercial operation.
With his twin, Steve, the Root brothers acquired WeatherBank, Inc. from its founder and successfully operated the weather services company for nearly 25 years in Edmond, Oklahoma. AccuWeather acquired WeatherBank in 2015.
Michael has been recognized as a Certified Professional Geologist; a MO Registered Geologist; a TX Licensed Geoscientist; a Certified Independent Professional Earth Scientist; and a Certified Petroleum Geologist. Michael holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Geology from the University of Alaska at Fairbanks.

Paul Bridge, General Manager of AccuWeather for Business, is a meteorologist specializing in business and operational applications of weather.
He has worked in both private and public sectors in numerous roles, such as operational forecasting for military, commerce and as a BBC television presenter. A former UK Met Office college lecturer, he is also active within the American Meteorological Society, the Transportation Research Board and has provided support for the World Meteorological Organization, such as the Group of experts on Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation for Transport Networks and Nodes
